The quilt pattern we brought you today is the X and O. It’s a very pretty quilt that has the traditional name Paths to Piece. You can meet the same quilt by Hugs and Kisses pattern. This quilt may look complicated, but it’s totally a scrappy four patch, and super quick using precuts. Depending on the colors and prints that you’ll chose, when the quilt blocks are sewn together, the letters X and O stand out giving a beautiful effect to the piece.
You will see that the quilt blocks are easy and quickly to assemble. You can make each block with four smaller pieces. If you want the quilt to have the two most distinct letters, create the two block configurations and use the same fabric to sew the patchwork that forms each X or O. Quilt blocks are made by sewing small squares in two opposite corners of a larger square.
The layout of your quilt will be a little different, but it’s actually the outer areas of the smaller units that change the appearance of a quilt. To make the two letters more distinct, create the two block configurations and use the same fabric to sew the patchwork that forms each X or O. This quilt does not need a border, however, add a border of your choice and do it your way.
You’ll need the following materials to make a quilt X and O:
- (168) 5" x 5" dark squares (3-1/4 yards);
- (336) 2-3/4" x 2-3/4" light squares, 2 yards;
- Backing and batting for a quilt that finishes at 54" x 63";
- About 240 running inches of double fold binding to finish at 1/4".
To start, draw a line from one corner to the opposite corner on the back of each small square. Gather (1) 5″ dark square and (2) of the marked light squares. You can find the entire patterns for free in The Spruce Crafts. The video tutorial of this quilt is available for free at Quilting Tutorials.
